AEA Web Event Etiquette

The web event will open and be available for login up to 30 minutes before the start time.

Please join with your video on.

Like a face-to-face meeting, please do not bring any food or drinks, and please refrain from moving around during the meeting.

The web event will not be interrupted for individual technical difficulties.

It is suggested that devices are placed on a stable, flat surface positioned so your head and shoulders are in view in a room that has adequate lighting.

All attendees at the event are muted upon arrival to create a peaceful atmosphere.

Attendees are encouraged to label their screens with their first name and city where they live following these steps:

click the “Participants” icon on the bottom or the top right corner of your screen

on the sidebar that opens to the right, hover the cursor over your name

select your name
-
type your first name and the city where you live.

check, “Remember my name for future meetings” and press “OK”

Attendees will stay muted for the duration of the event unless asked to share by the chairperson.

To change the layout of your screen, choose between the Speaker or Gallery View by clicking the icon on the bottom or the top right of your screen.

To see all the participants attending the web event, click the next page arrow or scroll down on your device.

If asked to share, please speak for no more than 5 minutes.

The co-chair will time speakers and will send a message to a participant after 4 minutes of sharing or after 9 minutes of speaking. Messages are made visible by the orange chat icon flashing your screen.

If you experience any technical difficulties during the web event, please notify the web event chairperson after the event contact@aeainfo.org.

Web Event Format

The chair will begin with a brief reminder about the etiquette of having everyone on mute for the duration of the meeting unless asked by the chair to speak.

The chair will open the event with the Serenity Prayer
-
The chair will read the AEA Preamble
-
The chair will read a brief passage from the Big Book or the AA 12 Steps and 12 Traditions as a suggested theme for the event
-
The chair will call on the three 10-minute speakers to share
-
The chair will call on participants to share for no more than 5 minutes for the remainder of the 60-minute event.

To close the meeting, the co-chair will read the final two paragraphs from A Vision For You.
